Business Success – The Books Your Read and the People You Meet

January 29th, 2011

My old friend, the late Charles E. Jones, often said “five years from now you’ll be the same person you are today except for the books you read and the people you meet.”

Charlie “Tremendous” Jones was an inspirational speaker, sales trainer and author who inspired and motivated millions with his humor and wisdom. Charlie got his nick name because every time someone asked him how he was, he would say “tremendous.” And he was!

There are 11,000 business books published in the United States every year, so it would be very difficult to find just the one to find all the answers for your business. But, the search would be well worth the effort.

If you are starting a home business or already have one, you should commit a part of
your time to “self-education”. Consistently keep up with new books that can help you build yourself and your business.

I’m sure if Charlie were with us today, he would add the internet. You will find an
enormous amount of help in ezines and blogs, not to mention Google, and interfacing with others on Face Book and Twitter and other social networking sites.

And, let’s us not forget the other half of the philosophy, “the people you meet”. Your church, your school, local service organizations, your chamber of commerce, referral/networking groups, sport and/or hobby groups can all help you grow your contact list and thus your business.

For sure you should have your very own copy of that timeless classic “How To Win Friends And Influence People” by Dale Carnegie. Even though this book was published in 1937, as well as another ‘must have’ book, “Think And Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, they remain timeless road maps to success and achievement of every description.

So keep reading, listening and networking every day and you will find that in five years time you will be well on your way to accomplishing whatever dreams and goals you have set for yourself.

Success in life comes from knowing what it is you want, and then committing yourself to it completely.
